SOFTBALL DUKES WIN FIRST TWO HOME GAMES

The Dukes outscored the Red Flash 18-2 and had 24 hits in the doubleheader. JMU also showed its depth at pitcher with all four pitchers seeing action on the afternoon.
The second game started with the Dukes showing their power at the plate when Julia Dominguez (Sterling, Va./Park View) hit a two-run home run to left center.
Britttney Lyddane (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) added a solo shot of her own in the third inning to record her first collegiate home run and put the Dukes up 3-0.
The Red Flash came back in the top of the fifth scoring two runs. The first came on a sacrifice fly to right field by Janelle McCoy which allowed pinch runner Katie Lambert to score from third. The second run was scored on an RBI single bunt by Kelly Cortese which allowed Richele Hall to score and cut the Dukes lead to one.
The Dukes rallied in the bottom of the sixth to score seven runs and end the game.
Amber Kirk (Hamilton, Va./Loudoun County) led off the inning with a double to right center.
Kaitlyn Wernsing (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) reached first on a passed ball after striking out and Courtney Simons (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) drew a walk to load the bases.
Jenny Clohan (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) followed with an RBI single and Katie George (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) was hit by a pitch to score another run.
Jenn Chavez (Upland, Calif./Upland) came to the plate and hit a single which plated two more runs before Kirk drew a walk with two outs to load the bases again.
Pinch hitter, Shaunte Duarte (Whittier, Calif./La Habra) sent a single through the left side to plate two more runs and give the Dukes a 10-2 advantage which ended the game under the eight-run slaughter rule.
Clohan earned the win for JMU going the first two innings giving up no runs and no hits.
Renee' Bounds (Denton, Md./North Caroline) came in to pitch three innings, giving up two runs, on four hits, and striking out two.
Branden Moss (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) pitched the last inning only giving up a single hit.
In game one, the Dukes put up five runs in the bottom of the second inning and added three more over the course of the game.
The first run was scored when George reached on an error by the shortstop and Simons came home. Chavez followed with a three RBI double to left center and Dominguez singled to left field allowing Chavez to come home and give the Dukes a 5-0 lead.
The Dukes added a run off Brittney Dyson's (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) RBI single to left center and took a 6-0 lead.
St. Francis scored in the top of the fifth when Nicole Bender singled up the middle and Kelly Cortese scored from second.
JMU added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth off an RBI double from Dyson and an RBI single through the rig
