HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison was unable to overcome an 11-point halftime deficit on Saturday evening, dropping a 74-64 decision to Oral Roberts in non-conference men's basketball action as part of the Men Against Breast Cancer Classic at the JMU Convocation Center.
The Dukes, who shot 53.3 percent (16-for-30) from the field in the second half, fell to 2-2 with the loss. Oral Roberts moved to 3-1 with the victory.
JMU improved its shooting drastically after the break following a 33.3-percent shooting performance (10-for-30) from the field in the opening period. The Golden Eagles took advantage, opening a lead of as much as 13 in the first half.
The second half saw the Dukes make multiple attempts at a comeback, cutting the lead to five with 12:54 to play and staying within single digits much of the way, but the Golden Eagles' own second-half shooting (10-for-17) held JMU at bay.
Junior forward
Yohanny Dalembert provided the biggest spark for the Dukes, scoring all 17 of his points after the break and pulling down six rebounds.
For the eighth straight contest, senior guard
Ron Curry notched double-digit points, racking up 16 on the evening while grabbing a pair of rebounds. Junior forward
Dimitrije Cabarkapa joined the pair with 10 points of his own on 4-for-7 shooting, including making both of his three-pointer attempts, and tallied five boards.
QUOTING COACH BRADY"That's why we play these in-season tournaments: to figure ourselves out. I'm disappointed that we didn't perform better; I'm disappointed that we didn't share the ball as freely in the first half. I thought we made some mistakes and, for every mistake we made, they capitalized. That's a really good basketball team."
