BOSTON – James Madison women's basketball capitalized on several double-figure performances to win 61-52 at Northeastern (8-14, 3-8) on Sunday afternoon, the ninth straight win for the Dukes (16-5, 9-1 CAA).
With four Dukes scoring in double figures, redshirt senior guard Jazmon Gwathmeyled the way with 18 points and moved into 16th on the all-time scoring chart at 1,319 career points. She was followed by sophomore Hailee Barron's 15 points. Barron has scored in double figures both times she has played at the Cabot Center (10 points in 2014-15).
Junior forward Da'Lishia Griffinand freshman center Kayla Cooper-Williamseach scored 13 points en route to double-doubles at Northeastern. Griffin pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds, including eight offensive boards, while Cooper-Williams added 12 boards to her career-high point total.
Senior point guard Angela Mickensdished out 10 assists for her 11th career double-assist performance. She now has 595 career assists, just 12 away from taking over second place on JMU's all-time assist chart.
JMU trailed by as many as four, but used a 9-0 run over a four-minute span to take the lead at 24-18. The Huskies, however, closed the second quarter on an 8-3 run that was capped by a steal and layup by Samantha DeFreese just before the clock hit zeros, sending the Dukes into the locker room leading by just one (27-26).
Northeastern pulled ahead once more (31-29) with 8:27 on the third-quarter clock, but a clutch second-chance lay-in from Cooper-Williams tied the game at 31-all. Part of a 7-0 run by the Dukes, JMU pushed out to a 36-31 lead that the Huskies countered with a 5-0 spurt that tied the game for the sixth and final time at 36-all. The Dukes took the lead for good at 38-36 off points in the paint from Griffin.
Leading 40-38 after a Tiffany Montagne layup, the Dukes used a 7-0 run to solidify their lead. The stretch was powered by a pair of blocks from Gwathmey that fed a 3-pointer from Barron. Gwathmey finished the day with four blocks to tie a season high.
The Dukes have a trip to Drexel on their calendar next Friday, Feb. 12, for a 7 p.m. contest. The Dragons are coming off a 49-46 loss at College of Charleston.

Freshman center Kayla Cooper-Williams posted her second career double-double with a career-high 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior forward Da'Lishia Griffin had her third career double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
TEAM NUMBERS
JMU trailed 13-9 at the end of the 1st quarter, just their fifth trailing at the end of the first 10 minutes this season. It marked the second time the Dukes have gone on to win the contest.
The Dukes' 27 first-half points were the fewest they have scored over the first 20 minutes in CAA play.
SUPER SUNDAY FACTS
Today marked the 11th time JMU has played on Super Bowl Sunday in Kenny Brooks' tenure as head coach. The Dukes are 11-0 all-time.
The Dukes have never played on a Super Bowl Sunday when the Denver Broncos were in the game while led by Kenny Brooks.

AROUND THE CAA JMU strengthened its first-place lead in the Colonial Athletic Association (9-1) after Drexel fell 49-46 at College of Charleston. Drexel and Hofstra are tied for second place at 8-3, 1 ½ games behind the Dukes. Elon is in fourth place (7-4) after a 66-64 win at Delaware, who is in fifth place (6-5).
UP NEXT JMU heads to Drexel to wrap up a three-game road swing on Friday, Feb. 12. The Dukes defeated the Dragons 67-56 earlier this year when the two teams competed at the Convo.
