Dukes’ Season Ends with 17-7 Loss to No. 4 Maryland in Second Round

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – No. 19 James Madison lacrosse fell to No. 4 seed Maryland 17-7 in the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship second round at the Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes ended their season at 14-6 overall while the Terrapins improved to 14-5.
Senior attacker Isabella Peterson led the Dukes' offensive efforts with four goals in the outing while senior attacker Katelyn Morgan added two assists.
Sophomore midfielder Josie Pell and freshman defender Ava Bleckley secured two ground balls and caused one turnover each to lead the defense for JMU. Bleckley also added a team-high five draw controls.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Boden entered the cage for the Dukes midway through the first quarter and made eight saves on 27 shots faced, allowing 12 goals and posting a .400 save percentage in her 52:42 in the cage.
Maryland's attack was led by Eloise Clevenger as she scored five goals and tallied three assists while Brianna Lamoureux led the defense with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Shaylan Ahearn collected a game-high 11 draw controls for the Terps.
Emily Sterling made six saves on 13 shots faced, allowing three goals and amassing a .667 save percentage.

First Quarter – Maryland 6, James Madison 0
Maryland got off to a hot start scoring five straight to force a change in the cage for the Dukes. After Boden entered the net, the Terrapins notched one more goal before the close of the frame. The Dukes collected four draw controls in the quarter while Maryland secured three.
Second Quarter – Maryland 12, James Madison 2
The Terrapins fired off two consecutive goals to start the quarter but Peterson got the Dukes on the board with a man-up goal. Maryland scored another two in a row before sophomore midfielder Lauren Savagenotched a free-position goal for JMU. The Terps found the back of the net two more times to end the first half.
Third Quarter – Maryland 15, James Madison 3
Maryland came out of the break and scored three consecutive goals. Peterson scored her second goal of the day with 3:30 left in the third frame.
Fourth Quarter – Maryland 17, James Madison 7
The Dukes rallied in the fourth quarter as sophomore attacker Maddie Epke and Pell each scored and Peterson notched two more goals. Hannah Leubecker and Ahearn scored the lone Maryland goals of the frame. The Dukes outshot the Terrapins 6-3 and outdrew them by a 5-2 margin in the last quarter.

- Morgan's two assists moved her into tied-12th in all-time points in JMU history with 193. She is tied with Stephanie Finley ('15).
- Bleckley's five draw controls in the outing were a career high, as she previously recorded four in three different matchups.
- Boden moved into 18th in all-time saves in JMU history with 164.
- Epke broke the JMU single-season draw control record midway through the season and has finished the season with a record of 178.
