NORFOLK, Va. – James Madison women's basketball shot 50.0 percent (33-for-66) from the field and saw
Peyton McDaniel (19 points, 13 rebounds) record her fifth consecutive double-double to power past Old Dominion in a wire-to-wire 85-62 triumph on Saturday afternoon inside Chartway Arena.
JMU (19-4, 11-0 SBC) poured in 46 points in the paint and held ODU (14-9, 6-5 SBC) to 20-of-59 (.333) from the field. The Dukes have started conference play 11-0 for the eighth time in program history and for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign when they got off to a 14-0 start.
McDaniel is the first JMU player to record five consecutive double-doubles since JMU Athletics Hall of Fame member
Meredith Alexis had five straight during the middle of the 2006-07 season. The Birdsboro, Pa. native now has nine double-doubles this season and 17 in her career. McDaniel also tied her career high of three assists and three blocks.
Ashanti Barnes led all scorers with 24 points on an 11-of-17 (.647) shooting afternoon to go along with five rebounds.
Kseniia Kozlova finished in double figures with 10 points and grabbed five boards.
Bree Robinson came off the bench to pace all players with a career-high seven assists to go along with eight points, three rebounds and two steals.
Ro Scott produced eight points, four boards and four assists as a reserve in 24 minutes of action.
Hama'ya Fielder led Old Dominion in scoring with 16 points, while Simaru Fields (14) and En'Dya Buford (13) also finished in double figures. Simone Cunningham and Sarah Fitzgerald tied for the team lead with six rebounds apiece.

First Quarter – JMU 21, ODU 10
- The Dukes opened the game on a 6-0 run, holding the Monarchs scoreless until the 6:03 mark.
- JMU went on a 7-for-7 stretch to make it 21-8 with 1:20 to play in the first frame.
Second Quarter – JMU 47, ODU 25
- McDaniel knocked down her first triple of the game to expand JMU's advantage to 20 (37-17) heading into the media timeout.
- The Dukes shot 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the field and 4-for-6 (.667) from three to take a 22-point lead (47-25) at the break.
Third Quarter – JMU 69, ODU 39
- Barnes converted on an and-one play to extend JMU's lead to 28 (57-29) at the 6:41 mark of the period.
- With 3.4 seconds to go, Robinson connected on a half-court heave to give the Dukes a 30-point lead (69-39) with one quarter to go.
Fourth Quarter – JMU 85, ODU 62
- McDaniel added seven points in the final frame as the Dukes cruised to an 85-62 finish.
- Fielder poured in 14 points on 4-of-7 (.571) as ODU outscored the Dukes 23-16 in the fourth, closing on a 6-0 run.
Game Notes
- James Madison is the first Sun Belt women's basketball program to start conference play 11-0 or better since Little Rock began the 2017-18 season 12-0.
- The victory marked the Dukes' 11th straight over Old Dominion and 16th win in the last 18 meetings.
- With the win in Norfolk, JMU extends its lead in this year's TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge to 6-3 over Old Dominion. The Dukes have now won all 12 meetings in men's and women's basketball since the two joined the Sun Belt in 2022.
- JMU dished out 20 assists, the second most by the team this season behind a 21-assist outing versus Gardner-Webb on Nov. 17.
- The Dukes' offensive efficiency marked the third time this season they have shot 50.0 percent or better. The program's season-best performance was a 33-for-61 (.541) shooting night at Marshall on Jan. 15.
- Barnes' 24-point outing was her third 20-point outing this season and the third in her Division I career.
- JMU committed just 10 turnovers – making it the fourth time this season the team has recorded 10 or fewer.
- The Dukes won in wire-to-wire fashion for the third time this season and the third time in Sun Belt play. The two other wire-to-wire victories were at Marshall (93-65, Jan. 15) and Georgia Southern (77-60, Jan. 29).
- JMU's 85 points are the second-most allowed by ODU this season behind NC State's 86-55 win over the Monarchs in Raleigh, N.C. on Dec. 8.
