Brent S. Bennett was a leading performer during one of the top periods in JMU soccer history. JMU compiled a 73-12-5 (.839) record during his four seasons (1991-94) in the program and won Colonial Athletic Association titles and played in the NCAA tournament during each of his last three seasons.
The 1994 Dukes reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament, and he was first-team All-America (national coaches association), All-South and All-CAA that season. He completed his career with 41 goals in 81 games and still is second in team history in goals and third in points (99). His 16 game-winning career goals rank second all-time at JMU.
In 1993 he was the CAA player of the year, second-team All-America and first-team all-region and all-conference, and in 1992 he was second-team All-CAA. JMU was 17-3-1 in 1991, 17-4-1 in 1992, 19-2-1 in 1993 and 20-3-2 in 1994 when the Dukes set a team record for victories in a season.
