A four-year letterwinner for the Dukes, Joyce was a key part of JMU football in his time with the Dukes, including leading the team to an 8-4 mark in 1999, an Atlantic 10 co-championship and a berth in the NCAA Playoffs. He was only the third player in NCAA history with 1,000 career yards in rushing, receiving and returns, finishing with a then school-record 5,659 career all-purpose yards. A two-time All-American as well as two-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree, Joyce held the school records for single-season kickoff returns, punt return yards and average punt return as well as career marks for kickoff returns, punt returns, punt return yards and punt return average. He finished his career ranked 10th in career receptions with 102, while owning three of the top five games in school history in punt return yardage. Joyce was also a three-time Roanoke Times and World News All-State pick, garnering first team honors in 1998.
