A two-sport standout for the Dukes, Jess Marion was a key cog on JMU’s lacrosse teams from 1997-2000 and also a consistent part of the Dukes’ women’s soccer squads during that time. A three-time Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-American, including a first-team honor in 2000, Marion led the Dukes to a 50-23 record over her four years, two Colonial Athletic Association regular season titles, two CAA Tournament crowns and four NCAA Appearances as well as JMU ranking in the top six in the final national polls in each of her four years. In her senior year, she led the Dukes to the NCAA Semifinals, finishing with a No. 3 national ranking, and earned three All-American, two All-Region, NCAA All-Tournament Team and First Team All-CAA honors as well as selection to the North/South Senior All-Star Game. Following that 2000 season, she was also named the CAA Player of the Year, IWLCA National Midfielder of the Year and was a finalist for the JMU Female Athlete of the Year after leading the team and ranking nationally in goals per game (3.53) and points per game (4.00).

For her career at JMU, Marion ranks third in draw controls (156), ninth in caused turnovers (74), 10th in ground balls (115), 17th in goals (100) and 20th in points (126). She hold the school record for a single-season with 62 goals that stood until 2004 and still ranks second. She also was a member of the 1998 U.S. Developmental and 1999 U.S. National Lacrosse squads and earned additional All-Region honors in 1998 and 1999 as well as All-CAA accolades in 1999.

As a member of the women’s soccer team, she played in 20 of 23 games in 1996 and all 22 in 1998, helping the Dukes to a pair of NCAA apperances, including the Round of 16 in 1996 and Round of 32 in 1998. For her career, she had four goals and five assists, including two goals and an assist in NCAA play.
