One of the most decorated student-athletes in JMU's track and cross country history, DeFrancesco earned the distinction of becoming the first JMU student-athlete to earn three All-America honors in one year. She placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run at the 2002 NCAA Indoor Championships, fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships and 30th at the 2002 NCAA Cross Country Championships. She was the third-ranked American woman in the steeplechase in 2002. DeFrancesco still holds JMU records in the outdoor 3,000 (9:24.08), outdoor 5,000 (16:03.97), steeplechase (9:56.07) and indoor 5,000 (16:22.64). She was CAA Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2002, a two-time JMU Female Athlete of the Year and was selected to the CAA Silver Anniversary Team.
