BETHPAGE, N.Y., Oct. 26, 2007 -- James Madison sophomore Jessica Propst (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) led the Dukes' cross country team Friday with a third-place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships hosted by the Hofstra.
Propst completed the 6,000-meter race in a time of 22 minutes, 5.8 seconds.
Georgia State senior Rachel Hannah won the race easily, finishing nearly 30 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Hannah was timed in 21:28.4, while William and Mary senior Erin Prillaman was second in 21:56.1.
The Tribe claimed its fifth consecutive team title, while the Dukes finished second for the fourth time in the last five years. W&M compiled 40 points and was followed by JMU (50), Georgia State (81), Delaware (127), Northeastern (133), Towson (155), Hofstra (191), North Carolina Wilmington (211), Virginia Commonwealth (221) and George Mason (287).
Propst ran a personal-best time, beating her previous 6,000-meter cross country PR of 22:36 by more than 30 seconds. Her earlier PR was set on Oct. 13 at Arkansas's Chile Pepper Festival.
Propst was among three JMU runners to finish in the top 12 and earn All-CAA honors.
Senior Dena Spickard (Marion, Va./Marion), the 2006 CAA champion, finished seventh in 22:13.5. Junior Aspen Foster (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) placed 12th in 22:28.8.
Other Dukes' runners included sophomore Alison Parris (Saint Leonard, Md./Patuxent), 13th in 22:30.7; sophomore Emily Hellmuth (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), 15th in 22:34.5; senior Michelle Beardmore (Front Royal, Va./Warren County), 17th in 22:38.2; and sophomore Amber Lussier (
