MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – James Madison cross country had a strong showing with a fourth-place effort at the Spider Alumni Open at Pole Green Park on Saturday morning.

JMU tallied 108 points (7-16-27-28-30), with freshman Anna Pucilowski leading her team with a career-best 4K time of 14:34.8. Mullane Baumiller (16th – 14:57.7), Sidney Walters (27th – 15:13.7), Taylor Myers (28th – 15:16.8), and Carol-Anne Garrett (30th – 15:21.1) rounded out the scoring for the Dukes.

William & Mary took home the team title with 56 points (2-8-10-17-19), followed by Georgetown (71) and Richmond (73). The Tribe's Molly Weithman crossed the finish line in 14:00.4 for first.

"We had a great showing at our first meet of the season. I'm pleased that we finished higher than last year at this race, with two newcomers who really stepped up and led the team today. Our returners have worked hard this summer, and their efforts also showed. Our depth is strong, with a top-five spread of 47 seconds and a top-seven spread of 50 seconds."

How It Happened

The Dukes made major progress over the second kilometer, with Myers moving up 25 spots, while Walters jumped 20 places.
Pucilowski posted a 3:33.6 3K split to move from 23rd to ninth heading into the final kilometer.
