HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 11, 2008 ? James Madison sophomore guard Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) scored 28 points to lead the Dukes to an 83-73 win over DT3 in a women's basketball exhibition game Tuesday night at the JMU Convocation Center.
Evans scored 10 of JMU's first 12 points and had 15 points by halftime. She netted 12 in a 30-10 scoring run in the second half that brought the Dukes from six points down to 14 points ahead.
It was a back-and-forth contest in which DT3, a team of former college stars, led for much of the first half. But JMU outscored DT3 13-3 in a span of 4:34 to take a seven-point (40-33) lead with 1:56 to go. However, DT3 scored seven points to two for the Dukes in the final 1:31 and trailed only 42-40 at intermission.
DT3 opened the second half with a 13-5 run that gave the squad a six-point (53-47) advantage at 13:52.
JMU responded by outscoring DT3 30-10 in a span of under 10 minutes, with Evans contributing 12 and sophomore forward/center Jalissa Taylor (Chesterfield, Va./L.C. Byrd) adding six points to lead the Dukes. JMU held a double-digit lead until a three-pointer by DT3 guard Jasmine Byrd (North Carolina Greensboro '07) cut the margin to 81-73 with 31 seconds to play.
