HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 1, 2010 - James Madison ran out to a three-goal lead at the half and added five second-half goals to run away with an 8-0 win over Hofstra in Colonial Athletic Association field hockey action at the JMU Field Hockey Complex on Friday evening.

The Dukes, who are third among other teams receiving votes in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Coaches poll, won their fourth straight game to improve to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in the CAA. Hofstra dropped to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in conference.

"We did the simple things so well tonight," said head coach Antoinette Lucas. "It's really great that the result is an 8-0 win for us."

Seniors Amy Daniel (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) and Becky Hilgar (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen Valley) each had two goals and assist while fellow senior Dolores de Rooij (Vlaardingen, The Netherland/Erasmiaans) chipped in with a goal and an assist. The goal by de Rooij gave her 34 for her career, moving her into sole possession of 15th on JMU's all-time list. It was also her ninth career game-winning goal, good enough to tie for ninth all-time.

Other goal scorers for Madison were freshman Lise van Dam (The Hague, The Netherlands/Maerlant Lyceum), her first career goal, junior Lindsay Cutchins (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) and sophomore Tori Lindsey (Audubon, Pa./Methacton). Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Margo Savage (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) made five saves to record her fourth shutout of the season.

JMU held a 31-13 advantage in shots while Hofstra led 7-5 in penalty corners. It was the first time the Dukes recorded 30+ shots in a match since Oct. 5, 2009 when they had 34, also against Hofstra. The eight goals were the most since Sept. 30, 2009 when Madison defeated Radford 8-1.

After defeating Delaware 7-1 on Sunday, JMU has now outscored its opponents 15-1 in its last two games. The 15 goals tied for the third most goals scored in consecutive games in program history and are the most since the team scored 16 combined in wins over Ball State and Virginia Commonwealth in on Sept. 10 and 13, 2000.
