HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 25, 2011 – Sophomore back Amy Goldstein (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) knocked home a rebound in the game's 58th minute and senior goalkeeper Margo Savage (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) collected her fifth career shutout to lead the James Madison field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Towson at the JMU Field Hockey Complex on Sunday.

JMU won for the third time in its last four games to improve to 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Towson had its five-game win streak snapped and dropped to 5-4 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

"When you get into conference play, it's all about winning the game and we won the game," head field hockey coach Antoinette Lucas said. "With the number of shots we had, we would have liked to have a few more go in the net, but to shutout a team that's been averaging three goals a game in its last six games is great."

Goldstein's goal was her first of the season and the second of her career. It was the Lititz, Pa., native's first career game-winning goal. She led all players with seven shots, including three on net while freshmen forwards Taylor Bailey (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) and Bethany Ashworth (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) each contributed three shots.

Offensively, Towson got a pair of shots from JoEllen Sumego, including one on net. Four other Tigers had one shot each.

Savage's shutout was her first of the season as she made two saves to improve to 3-3 on the season. The senior lowered her goals against average to 1.57 while raising her save percentage up to .793.

Goalkeeper Christina Siwiec turned aside six shots while allowing one goal to take the loss and drop to 5-4 on the season.

JMU held a 23-6 advantage in shots, including a 14-2 lead in the second half. The Dukes attempted eight penalty corners to the Tigers' two while TU led 6 to 2 in saves.
