Harrisonburg, Va., Oct. 16, 2012 - Taylor Deitrick struck an unassisted goal early in the second half to carry Richmond past James Madison 1-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday night at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.

UR, ranked 17^th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Top 25 Poll, improved to 11-4 overall with its sixth straight win. JMU fell to 8-6. The Dukes have had 13 of their 14 matches decided by one goal, including all six losses.

Deitrick earned a breakaway opportunity in the opening minutes of the second period. Receiving the ball past midfield, she drove the right side and into the circle. Once inside, she reached the right post and flipped the shot past JMU freshman keeper Lena Wimmert (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany/Lise-Meitner Gymnasium) for her team-leading 10^th strike of the season.

JMU had four penalty corner opportunities in the second half as part of its 5-1 advantage for the game, but the Dukes couldn't find the cage. UR led the match in shots 7-5.

Wimmert made three stops on the night while Richmond's Anna Zarkoski stopped two JMU shots, the first coming on JMU's best scoring chance in the first half. On the first corner of the match with five minutes left in the period, freshman Lose Stijntjes (Belgio, Belgium/Heilig Hartcollege) saw her shot from the top stopped by Zarkoski. Senior Jenna Taylor (Midlothian, Va./James River) tried to follow up at the left post but had her shot blocked.

JMU returns home this weekend for a pair of CAA matches. The Dukes host No. 21 William and Mary on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. match Sunday vs. No. 8 Old Dominion.
