FARMVILLE, Va., Sept. 11, 2013 – Four James Madison field hockey players scored in the first half of Wednesday's match at Longwood to pace the Dukes to a 4-2 win over the Lancers in Farmville, Va.

JMU improved to a 3-2 overall record while Longwood slipped to 1-4 overall on the year.

With 8:46 remaining in the first half, junior Taylor Bailey (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) pressured the Lancers and handed the ball off to sophomore Erin Gallivan (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford), who scored the third and decisive goal of the game. It was Gallivan's first appearance this season and first goal of her career.

The Dukes started hot as Saskia Chelmowski (Berlin, Germany/Gustav-Heinemann Oberschule) dropped in the first goal of the day just 1:55 into the game, taking the corner stick stop and shot to give JMU the early 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later, Bailey picked up a hard pass from redshirt sophomore Taylor West (Princess Anne, Md./Pocomoke) and punched it into the goal for a 2-0 start to the game.

Freshman Rosalie Becker (Weesp, Netherlands/Goois Lyceum) also scored her first collegiate goal when she wound up from the top of the circle and gave the Dukes a 4-0 lead to take into halftime.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lena Wimmert (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany/Lise-Meitner Gymnasium) held Longwood scoreless until the 52:36 mark of the game when Stacey de Grandehomme scored off a direct corner. De Grandehomme posted both Longwood goals on Wednesday, scoring a second time when she collected the rebound off two shots following a corner at the 63:37 mark.

Wimmert was credited with the win in-goal (2-2) after five saves and two goals allowed. Kaye Goulding suffered the loss (1-3) after 10 saves and four goals allowed.

The Dukes outshot the Lancers 17-10 with a 14-7 advantage in shots on goal. In the second half, however, Longwood won the shot battle 7-6, and it is the first time this season JMU has been outshot in a half. The Lancers also posted six of their seven second-half shots over a four-minute span (62:59 – 65:49), scoring once. The seventh shot was the first Longwood goal of the day.

JMU wraps up this four-game road slate on Sunday, September 15, with a 1 p.m. game at Richmond.
