Dukes Win Third Straight with 74-45 Decision Over American

HARRISONBURG, Va. – A career-high 20 points from senior guard Angela Mickens led James Madison women's basketball past American, 74-45, on Saturday night at the JMU Convocation Center.

The Dukes earned their third straight win and sixth in a row at home to improve to 5-1 overall. The Eagles fell to 0-8 on the year.

JMU held a 35-20 advantage at halftime and used a 15-0 run in the third quarter to pull away for good. Eight of junior forward Da'Lishia Griffin's 10 points came during that stretch.

The Dukes had four players in double figures for the fourth time this season. Despite being limited to 20 minutes by foul trouble, redshirt senior guard Jazmon Gwathmey poured in 16 points, while sophomore guard Hailee Barron had a career-high 11.

In addition to leading the Dukes in scoring, Mickens also led the way with six assists and six steals. She had tied her career high at halftime with 16 points across the first two frames.

JMU scored 22 points off American's 24 turnovers, including nine on the fast break. The Dukes shot 45.8-percent from the floor and held the Eagles to 32.6-percent. JMU also held a slight 34-32 rebounding advantage.

The Dukes hit the road for their next four contests, starting with a 7 p.m. bout at St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y., on Monday, Dec. 7.
