WALLACE, North Carolina – The James Madison women's golf team was unable to keep pace with the other leaders and tied for fourth at the 2015 River Landing Classic, April 11-12. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, co-hosted by UNCW and East Carolina, was played at the River Landing Golf Club (Par 72 -6,082 yards) in Wallace, N.C.
Entering the final round in second in a tight battle, Madison was not able to put together the four scores it needed and posted a 21-over 309 in the last 18 and finished in a tie for fourth with East Carolina at 40-over 904. Columbia shot the top round of the day, a 3-over 291, to take home the team title at 22-over 886. Delaware finished second, eight shots back at 30-over 894, while William and Mary shot the second-best final round of 7-over 295 to move up four spots to third at 35-over 899.
Freshman Laura Gomez-Ruiz shot a final round 2-over 74 to move up into a tie for 11th at 9-over 225, while freshman Gabrielle Weiss was next in a tie for 21st at 12-over 228. Senior Shabril Brewer and junior Kelsey Solan tied for 27th at 13-over 229, while junior Rachel Walker tied for 36th at 16-over 232.
Columbia's Jacqueline Chulya shot a tournament-best 3-under 69 in the final round to take home medalist honors at even-par 216, four shots better than UNCW's Mallory Warrick.
JMU has now wrapped up the regular season schedule and will head to Southport, North Carolina for the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golf Championship, April 17-19. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at St. James Plantation Reserve Course, with the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals going to the team champion.
