Dukes Earn 68-45 Victory over Wagner For First Win of Season

Harrisonburg, Va.- James Madison women's basketball earned its first win of the 2017-18 season with a 68-45 victory over Wagner at the JMU Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Dukes (1-1) led wire-to-wire against the Seahawks (0-2). With a five-point advantage late in the first quarter, JMU used an 11-2 run across the first two frames to take a 27-12 lead and held Wagner to at least a 12-point deficit until halftime.

The Seahawks cut the lead to single digits with a three-point just 1:06 into the third quarter, but an 8-0 run by the Dukes pushed the JMU advantage back to double digits for good.

Redshirt sophomore Kelly Koshuta poured in a career-best 20 points, including a 6-for-9 showing at the line, while sophomore Kamiah Smalls joined her in double digits with 16 points.

ALL IN
All 11 eligible Dukes saw action in Sunday's contest. Of those 11 Dukes, 10 scored and all 11 had at least one rebound.

DAY OF HIGHS

Redshirt sophomore Kelly Koshuta put up a career-high 20 points as well as added a career-best six rebounds.
Sophomore Lexie Barrier tied her career high in assists with four.
Sophomore Kamiah Smalls tied her career high in steals with five.

STILL OF THE DAY
Freshman Tori Harris scored the first points of her collegiate career on Sunday, draining a 3-pointer to cap the Dukes' scoring.

IN GOOD COMPANY
With her two blocks today, redshirt sophomore Kayla Cooper-Williams moved into a tie with Toia Giggetts for 13^th on the career blocks chart with 74.

OFF THE BOARDS
JMU outrebounded Wagner 42-29. On the offensive glass, the Dukes allowed the Seahawks just eight offensive rebounds while pulling down 25 defensive boards.

JMU hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to No. 18 Tennessee on Wednesday, Nov. 15 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
