In early November, members of the James Madison women's golf, lacrosse and baseball teams visited Montevideo Middle School for its annual Spirit Day. Spending the afternoon with local middle school children, JMU student-athletes organized activities and games, discussed the unique training aspects of their respective sports and socialized with the children.
Lauren Comegys, a sophomore on the women's golf team, said of the event, "It was fun! The kids are full of energy and some expressed interest in sticking with the sport and developing their skills. It was so rewarding to see the way they were interested in the sports and how they looked up to us. I hope we were able to positively influence them just as much!"
JMU Athletics would like to sincerely thank Amberlee Carlson of Montevideo Middle School for assisting in organizing the event.
The recently established JMU Student-Athlete Leadership Development Program has placed an emphasis on department-wide community engagement, with initiatives planned throughout the remainder of the fall, winter and spring.
