BOSTON, Mass. – James Madison women's basketball shot 62.96 percent from the floor in the second half to complete the comeback victory, securing the 60-57 win at Northeastern on Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes improved to 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association action (6-7 overall) and stretched its win streak to three games as they handed the Huskies their first league loss (6-7, 1-1 CAA).
After a 17-4 run by NU in the second quarter gave the Huskies a 10-point lead, the Dukes slowly chipped away at the deficit before utilizing a 10-0 run late in the third quarter to take its own one-point lead. The Huskies regained the lead twice more before a 7-0 JMU stretch pushed the Dukes ahead for good.
BARRIER SQUARED
Sophomore Lexie Barrier tallied the first double-double of her career with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. She added a season-high three steals and three assists.
LUCKY 13
Sophomore Kamiah Smalls scored in double digits for the 13th straight game, knocking down a game-high 18 points for the Dukes. She added nine rebounds and two assists as well as tied a career high in steals (6).
FROM BEYOND THE ARC
Northeastern scored six of its 11 first-half field-goals from 3-point range, but was limited to just three makes from beyond the arc and finished 9-of-21 from beyond the arc. JMU made three 3-pointers over the first 20 minutes
ON THE BLOCK
JMU had six blocks as a team for the third time in the last four games. Redshirt sophomore Kayla Cooper-Williams, sophomore Devon Merritt and junior Aneah Young each tallied two blocks on Sunday. This tied career highs for both Merritt and Young as well as pushed Cooper-Williams' career total to 93 blocks.
FOR CONSISTENCY'S SAKE
Senior Hailee Barron came off the bench to make her 114th consecutive appearance for the Dukes, now tied for the 10th-longest streak in JMU history with Kisha Stokes ('09).
Barron also drained a 3-pointer in the second quarter to move into a tie for 11th all-time in 3-point makes with Krissy Heinbaugh ('96). She surpassed Heinbaugh with her second make from beyond the arc, now sitting at 115 for her career.
