WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The James Madison women's golf team put a pair of finishers in the top five on Tuesday, as the Dukes wrapped up competition at the Kingsmill Women's Intercollegiate, hosted by William & Mary at the par-72, 6,025-yard Kingsmill Resort River Course.
Juniors
Maddisen Cox and
Laura Gomez-Ruiz took home third and fourth, respectively, leading the way for JMU as it finished ninth at the 22-team tournament. The Dukes shot a 16-over 304 in Tuesday's final round, closing the competition at 917, just a stroke behind eighth-place Illinois State.
Cox closed her weekend with a 4-over 76, finishing in sole possession of third place (68-76-76=220) at the 118-player event, just three strokes behind Liz Choi of William & Mary and Allison Lindley of Ball State, who tied for medalist honors. The weekend marked Cox' highest finish of the season and fourth top-10 of the year.
Gomez-Ruiz closed with a 1-over 73 to climb in to a tie for fourth at 6-over 222, marking her best 54-hole score of the season and just one stroke off her career best. The weekend earned the junior her first top-five finish of the season and her first since taking fifth at the MSU Spring Citrus Challenge (3/20-22/16).
Sophomore
Katie Turk matched her best round of the season with a 4-over 76 that moved her into a tie for 80th at 241, while junior
Gabrielle Weiss missed her season best by just a stroke with a 7-over 79 that earned her a tie for 100th at 246. Freshman
Morgan Cox closed out the JMU performances in a tie for 55th at 236 (81-75-80).

The Dukes will be back in action on Mon. April 3-Tues. April 4, when they head to Jacksonville, Fla. To take part in the Web.com Intercollegiate, hosted by Jacksonville University at Marsh Landing Country Club.
