James Madison's athletic teams recently participated in the NCAA Teamworks Community Engagement Competition for the spring of 2017, sponsored by Helper Helper. Out of all participating Division I schools, JMU finished in 14th place according to hours of service completed between January 1 and March 26.
In addition to the departmental standings, three James Madison teams finished top five in average hours per student-athlete in their sports out of all participating Division I schools. JMU teams ranked top five in their sport, along with a sample of service activities, include:
Women's Golf (#1)
Volunteering at the LPGA Golf Clinic
Volunteering in a local elementary school on STEM Night
Assisting with Girls and Women in Sport Day
Men's Soccer (#3)
Volunteering at Boys and Girls Club every week
Volunteering at the local SVU practices
Volunteering at a local elementary school during physical education classes
Field Hockey (#5)
Volunteering with the SPCA
Playing bingo at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center with patients
Purple Pups, where they teach the foundations of field hockey and teamwork to children
