NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion used a 23-2 run on either side of halftime to put James Madison in a hole it couldn't battle out of on Saturday evening, handing the Dukes a 67-42 loss in non-conference men's basketball at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
Sophomore guard
Matt Lewis led the Dukes with 15 points, his 31st career double-digit performance, while sophomore forward
Dwight Wilson pulled down 12 boards on the evening.
The Dukes (6-4) kept things close early, limiting the ODU (5-3) offense to a 10-9 lead with 9:46 to play in the first half, but the Monarchs would hold JMU to just one field goal over the next 14:13 as they pushed the lead to 33-11 before sophomore
Darius Banks got a tough layup to fall in traffic with 15:33 to play.
JMU would chip away at the lead early in the second half, pulling as close as 14 before the Monarchs put together a quick 14-2 run that included a pair of three-pointers to push the lead back to 52-26.
B.J. Stith led the Monarchs, going a blistering 12-of-16 from the field on his way to 28 points.
QUOTING COACH ROWE
"We know we can't put ourselves in the type of position we did tonight. Against a team as good as we faced here, we can't have the failures in execution that we did, because they'll make you pay. We saw that very clearly tonight."
