MORGANTON, N.C. - Sophomore
Morgan Cox broke her career low with a 1-over 73 on Monday afternoon to lead the James Madison women's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State at the par-72, 6,077-yard Mimosa Hills Country Club.

Cox bounced back after bogeys on her first two holes, racking up four birdies as she played the rest of her round under par to best her previous career low by a stroke and vault 30 spots on the 90-player leaderboard to finish tied for 26th at 153 (+9).

As a team, the Dukes shaved a stroke off their opening-round score, carding a 14-over 302 to close their final regular-season tournament in a tie for fourth among the 16-team field at 605 (+29). JMU finished the event tied with Wofford, just six strokes back of third-place Elon.

Senior
Laura Gomez-Ruiz posted her own round of 1-over 73, tallying three birdies of her own to climb 11 spots into the top 10 and finish tied for ninth at 148 (+4). The performance marked her fifth top-10 finish in just 10 tournaments this season.

Katie Turk continued her strong play, matching her opening-round 4-over 76 on Monday to climb a spot into a tie for 23rd, while sophomore
Lauren Comegys (t-26; 153) and senior
Maddisen Cox (t-56; 159) closed out the JMU scoring with rounds of 8-over 80.

UP NEXT
With the conclusion of the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, the Dukes have wrapped up their 10-tournament regular season. JMU will travel to St. James Plantation in Southport, N.C. to compete in the 2018 CAA Women's Golf Championships on April 13-15 and compete for the league's automatic bid to NCAA Regionals, held at various sites across the country.
