JMU Nation,
I hope that the transition from 2018 to 2019 has been fulfilling to you and your families. All of JMU Nation had much to celebrate in 2018 and much to anticipate in 2019. Each new year presents new opportunities and fresh beginnings, and such is the case for the Duke Club as we embark upon a new year.
Last week, the JMU Duke Club launched significant changes to its membership and donor structure. Changes to the Federal Tax Law in 2018 prompted these changes, which I anticipate will provide more long-term growth opportunities, maximizing our operation within this new framework.
The
announcement includes more specific details, but the changes revolve around the need for two distinct giving opportunities, which speak to varying priorities for each donor. The Proud and True Fund allows donors to make a 100 percent tax-deductible donation to JMU Athletics while maintaining parking and hospitality privileges. The Duke Club Seat Contribution also supports the Athletics Annual Fund but provides home seating benefits as laid out by the government's tax changes.
We are pleased that these funds will allow donors to better direct their JMU Athletics gifts. Meticulous research and planning for nearly a year led us to what we believe is the best giving structure for JMU.
While these structure updates alter how we approach our fundraising, the overriding charge is unchanged. We must continue building the Athletics Annual Fund so we can continue to support scholarships and provide championship experiences as part of the best student-athlete experience to be found in the NCAA. In the most recent fiscal year, we raised $2.62 million towards our total scholarship bill, which sits just under $9 million.
Coinciding with these changes, we are excited to begin
2019 football season ticket sales for our first season under Head Coach
Curt Cignetti. Tremendous opportunity awaits this team and we want you to be a part of building upon the championship culture that exists at JMU.
With 2019 being a reseating year in Bridgeforth Stadium, it is vital that fans begin planning now how to maximize their Duke Club giving to meet their personal priorities, whether that be seat location, parking or overall priority rank. All gifts must be pledged with 50 percent paid by May 15 in order to factor into your reseating priority appointment. In addition, I encourage you to look at our club seat early-bird offer of $650, a savings of $100 per ticket, for orders before February 15.
The best way to begin the process is by initiating the online transaction process with step-by-step directions to lead you through this new system. Both our Duke Club staff and Ticket Office staff are prepared to assist with any questions as we all become familiar with the new structure.
You may recall that back in October, I outlined the
Drive for 5 initiative and the goal for our Duke Club to reach 5,000 members. One intended outcome of these changes is affording new members the opportunity to join the Duke Club in a manner best suited to them. Every individual can attain a priority position that speaks to their need, which makes giving to JMU Athletics more flexible and more inclusive than ever before.
Every donor, regardless of amount, truly makes a difference!
Go Dukes!
