QUICK HITS
- James Madison men's basketball will look to rebound from a tough defeat over the weekend when they return home on Wednesday evening to face Shenandoah in a 4pm matchup that kicks off a basketball doubleheader at the Convocation Center.
- Over the weekend, the Dukes dropped a 65-34 loss at reigning national champion Virginia, falling to the Cavaliers in Charlottesville on Sunday evening. Junior guard Matt Lewis racked up 14 points and 10 boards in the loss to post his second double-double in as many contests this season.
- The Dukes took a step forward in 2018-19, going 14-19 on the year, including a 6-12 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play while losing just two seniors to graduation.
- Despite the graduation of departed guard Stuckey Mosley, the Dukes reuturn three other players who averaged double-digit scoring last season in Lewis (16.4ppg) and Darius Banks (12.3) and junior forward Dwight Wilson (10.2), who also pulled down 7.8 rebounds per contest in a breakout sophomore season.
- Prior to the season, both Lewis and Banks were named to Preseason All-CAA teams, with Lewis earning a spot on the All-CAA First Team and Banks being tabbed to the Second Team heading into 2019-20.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
- Shenandoah enters Wednesday with an 0-2 mark in 2019-20, with the Hornets dropping a match up at Christopher Newport on Tuesday evening.
- Leading scorer Christopher Chaney returns to lead the Hornets after a 5-20 campaign in 2018-19. Chaney started 21 of 25 games for Shenandoah, averaging 18.0 points per contest on 45.2% shooting from the floor.
- The Dukes have faced Shenandoah just twice in program history, with both matchups coming during the 1969-70 season, James Madison's first season competing in men's basketball as an NCAA varsity sport. That year saw the Dukes sweep both contests--80-75 at Shenandoah in January and 77-55 to cap the season in Harrisonburg on March 1.
- The two teams played twice per season in the two years prior to that, before JMU made the switch to varsity.
