QUICK HITS
- James Madison men's basketball returns to the Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon, opening a three-game homestand after a two-game road swing with a 2 p.m. matchup against New Hampshire.
- On Wednesday evening, the Dukes picked up their biggest win of the young 2019-20 season, travelling to Norfolk and picking up an 80-78 victory at Old Dominion to improve to 3-2 on the year. Juniors Darius Banks, Matt Lewis and Zach Jacobs all scored at least 20 points for JMU, with Banks adding 10 boards in his first double-double of the season.
- The Dukes took a step forward in 2018-19, going 14-19 on the year, including a 6-12 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play while losing just two seniors to graduation.
- Despite the graduation of departed guard Stuckey Mosley, the Dukes reuturn three other players who averaged double-digit scoring last season in Lewis (16.4ppg) and Darius Banks (12.3) and junior forward Dwight Wilson (10.2), who also pulled down 7.8 rebounds per contest in a breakout sophomore season.
- Prior to the season, both Lewis and Banks were named to Preseason All-CAA teams, with Lewis earning a spot on the All-CAA First Team and Banks being tabbed to the Second Team heading into 2019-20.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
- After opening the year with a pair of wins, New Hampshire halted a two-game losing streak with a 77-63 victory at Central Connecticut State on Tuesday that moved UNH to 3-2 on the season.
- The Wildcats' matchup in Harrisonburg will mark their fourth consecutive matchup on the road, having travelled to both St. John's and Boston University prior to playing CCSU.
- Sophomore forward Nick Guadarrama leads the way all over for the Wildcats, pacing the team scoring (15.0ppg), rebounding (9.8rpg) and field goal percentage (59.6) through UNH's opening five contests.
- The Dukes and Wildcats have never faced each other in men's basketball, dating back to 1969-70, JMU's first year as a varsity program.
- Of the 20 different teams the Dukes play this season, New Hampshire is the only school that JMU has never faced in men's hoops.
- James Madison has only ever played three teams from the current America East Conference, having faced Maine (2-0), UMBC (5-2) and Vermont (1-0) a combined 10 times in program history.
