QUICK HITS
- James Madison will close its second Colonial Athletic Association home weekend on Saturday afternoon, when it welcomes Drexel to the Convocation Center for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Dragons.
- On Thursday evening, the Dukes battled back from a double-digit deficit in the second half, but Delaware used a three-pointer with less than 40 seconds left to hand the Dukes an 80-76 loss at the Convo. Three players scored in double figures for JMU, with juniors Matt Lewis and Darius Banks picking up 19 and 18 points, respectively, and junior Dwight Wilson adding 15 with nine boards.
- Heading into the Dukes' sixth CAA matchup, junior Matt Lewis leads the charge with 17.7 points per game, while junior Darius Banks is adding 12.6 points per contest and junior Dwight Wilson is averaging a double-double at 12.0 points and 11.0 boards.
- Wilson's rebounding currently ranks second in the league as one of just three players averaging double digits, and his 58.5% clip from the field is tops in the CAA, while sophomore Deshon Parker currently leads the CAA in assist-turnover ratio at 1.89.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
- After picking up home wins over UNCW and Delaware in the last two weeks, Drexel was felled at Towson on Thursday evening to fall to 9-8 (2-2 CAA) on the season, falling into a tie for fifth in the league standings, 1.5 games ahead of JMU.
- Sophomore guard Camren Wynter, the reigning CAA Rookie of the Year, continued to lead the Dragons in 2019-20, tallying 14.6 points per contest and averaging 5.3 assists, while junior James Butler leads the CAA in rebounding at 11.7 boards per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- Saturday afternoon will see JMU and Drexel face each other for the 37th time in program history - the Dragons represent the 10th-longest rivalry in program history for the Dukes, with all but one contest coming since Drexel joined the CAA for the 2001-02 campaign.
- Owing mostly to the Dragons winning the first 12 meetings between the schools, Drexel still holds a 21-15 lead in the all-time series. However, JMU has a 9-7 advantage at the Convocation Center and has won seven straight over the Dragons in Harrisonburg.
- The teams split last year's meetings, with each school winning on its home court. In the Dukes' 71-69 win at the Convo on Feb. 14, 2019, then-sophomore forward Dwight Wilson erupted for 20 points and 18 boards and JMU held off a late Drexel charge to pick up the victory. Guards Matt Lewis and Deshon Parker added 11 points each in the win, with Parker adding four assists, three boards and two steals.
