QUICK HITS
- James Madison will play its first game in a week on Saturday afternoon, when the Dukes travel north to Towson to face the Tigers in a 2 p.m. matchup at SECU Arena.
- Last Saturday, the Dukes dropped a hard-fought 78-71 decision to Drexel at the Convocation Center. Junior Matt Lewis racked up 24 points, three assists and a pair of steals on the evening, while junior Darius Banks added 13 points, but the Dukes hit just 21 of their 59 shots from the field as Drexel was able to hold off multiple JMU charges in the second half.
- Heading into the Dukes' seventh CAA matchup, junior Matt Lewis leads the charge with 18.1 points per game, while junior Darius Banks is adding 12.6 points per contest and junior Dwight Wilson is averaging a double-double at 11.5 points and 10.8 boards.
- Wilson's rebounding currently ranks second in the league as one of just three players averaging double digits, and his 55.8% clip from the field is tops in the CAA, while sophomore Deshon Parker is second in the CAA in assist-turnover ratio at 1.79.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- After opening the CAA season with three losses, Towson has charged back to win three straight, including double-digit wins over Drexel and Delaware last week to improve to 9-9 (3-3 CAA) on the season and climb into sixth in the league standings.
- Senior guard Brian Fobbs continues to power the Tiger offense in 2019-20, entering Saturday's contest averaging 15.9 points per contest on 41.3% shooting. Senior forward Nakye Sanders averages 6.9 rebounds to lead the way on the boards.
SERIES HISTORY
- Saturday afternoon will be the 53rd time that Towson and James Madison have met in men's basketball, spanning two differeent conferences (ECAC South and CAA), making the Tigers the seventh-longest rivalry in the Dukes' history.
- The Dukes hold a commanding 35-17 lead in the all-time series between the schools, but JMU is just 12-12 on the road and has won just one of the last four meetings at Towson.
- The teams split last year's regular-season meetings, with each school winning on its home court, before the Dukes won the rubber match in the first round of the 2019 CAA Tournament. In that matchup, then-sophomore Matt Lewis racked up 26 points and capped off an 11-point second-half comeback when he buried the game-winning three-pointer with 2.7 seconds left in a 74-73 victory.
