QUICK HITS
- James Madison will look to halt a four-game losing streak on Thursday evening in Williamsburg, as it travels across the state to face first-place William & Mary in a 7 p.m. bout at Kaplan Arena.
- Last Saturday, junior guard Darius Banks erupted for a career-high 27 points at SECU Arena, but the Dukes fell just shy of a massive comeback as Towson handed JMU a 69-61 loss. Banks scored 22 of his 27 in the second half as he looked to lead the Dukes out of a 21-point second-half hole, adding eight rebounds and four steals along the way.
- Heading into the eighth CAA matchup, junior Matt Lewis leads the charge with 17.4 points per game, while junior Darius Banks is adding 13.4 points per contest and junior Dwight Wilson is averaging a double-double at 11.1 points and 10.7 boards.
- Wilson's rebounding currently ranks second in the league as one of just three players averaging double digits, and his 53.2% clip from the field is also second-highest, while sophomore Deshon Parker is second in the CAA in assist-turnover ratio at 1.7.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
SCOUTING THE TRIBE
- First-place William & Mary had won its first six CAA contests before dropping an 84-57 decision at Drexel on Saturday evening to fall to 14-6 (6-1 CAA) on the season, but still holds a half-game lead in the league standings.
- Senior forward Nathan Knight, runner-up in this year's CAA Preseason Player of the Year voting, leads the way for the Tribe, as he paces all of Division I with 15 double-doubles and sits 19th nationally in scoring (20.7ppg) and 17th in rebounding (10.6rpg).
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday night will mark the 99th meeting between the two Commonwealth rivals, making the Tribe the most common opponent in JMU program history, with an all-time series that stretches back to 1977-78, the Dukes' second Division I season.
- The Dukes hold a 50-48 edge in the all-time series, but William & Mary has cut into the deficit recently, winning 11 of the last 13 matchups and six in a row in Williamsburg to push its lead at Kaplan Arrena to 27-15.
- In last year's matchup on the Tribe's home court, the two teams battled throughout, with neither team leading by more than six across the final 26 minutes as W&M pulled away for a 79-74 win. Then-sophomore Matt Lewis hit five three-pointers on the evening to lead the Dukes with a then-season-high 26 points, while then-sophomore Dwight Wilson added 13 points and nine boards.
