EMMITSBURG, Md. – James Madison forward
Luca Erhardt scored twice in a three goal first half for the Dukes to help propel JMU past Mount St. Mary's, 4-0, on Wednesday night at Waldron Family Stadium.
Â
The Dukes are now 9-2 and are off to their best 11-match start since the 2004 squad started off 10-0-1. The Mount dropped to 2-9.
Â
The Dukes got out to an early lead as Erhardt scored his first goal under seven minutes into the match. He then added his second goal in the 19
th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. The Offenbach, Germany native became the first Duke since CJ Sapong in 2010 to record back-to-back multi-goal matches after he scored twice against George Washington last Tuesday.
Â
JMU added a third goal in the 25
th minute after
Clay Obara took a shot to the left of the goal that was saved by Adam Sivitar. The shot; however, bounced off of the Mount goalkeeper's gloves and ricocheted off of a nearby Mountaineer defender before rolling right into the net for a JMU 3-0 lead. JMU took the three-goal lead into halftime.
Â
The second half started out slow for both teams, but JMU began to heat up after the starting few minutes. The Dukes capitalized in the 58
th minute to take a 4-0 lead as
Dennis Mensah found the back of the net from a pass off the foot of
Rodrigo Robles. The assist was Robles' league-tying seventh assist, becoming the first Duke with seven assists in a season since Christian McLaughlin in 2011.
Â
The Mountaineers had a chance to get on the board, as Markus Nilsen took a shot on the ensuing kickoff after Mensah's goal, but it hit the crossbar to keep it at 4-0. The Dukes' defense remained strong for the remainder of the match, holding on to take the shutout win.

Quoting Head Coach Paul Zazenski
"It was a good team win tonight in which everyone contributed. The challenge was to get off to a good start and our guys responded by going up a few goals early. We kept a shutout and had a good amount of the ball. We will have a quick layoff before being back at it against William & Mary."
