QUICK HITS
- The James Madison Dukes will close out their 2020-21 regular-season campaign on Friday afternoon, welcoming Drexel to the Atlantic Union Bank Center for a 4 p.m. matchup in Harrisonburg.
- Prior to the matchup, the Dukes will honor their seniors, Zach Jacobs and Matt Lewis, both of whom have played all four seasons at JMU and are crucial parts of JMU's remarkable turnaround in 2020-21.
- The Dukes are now 13-5 (8-1 CAA) on the 2020-21 season after a hard-fought sweep over Hofstra two weeks ago that vaulted them into sole possession of first place in the league standings.
- By virtue of the CAA's tiebreaking policies, the Dukes have already clinched the top seed in next week's CAA Men's Basketball Championship, as well as at least a share of the regular-season title for the first time since 2014-15.
- Senior guard Matt Lewis has played the best basketball of his career as a senior, leading the Dukes and the CAA in scoring throughout the season, racking up 4.7rpg and 3.7apg along the way, while shooting nearly 40% from the three-point line.
- Senior Zach Jacobs has been putting in yeoman's work for the Dukes across the last month, averaging 7.3 points and 3.5 boards in just 17.5 minutes per game in the Dukes' last four contests.
- The Dukes rank among the best in the nation at getting to the free throw line - KenPom currently ranks the Dukes 11th in the country in their ability to earn free throws.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
- Drexel will be in action for the first time since splitting a pair of hard-fought contests at Hofstra on Feb. 6-7 that moved the Dragons to 8-7 (3-5 CAA) and into sole possession of seventh place in the league standings.
- Junior guard Camren Wynter and senior James Butler continue to lead the way for Drexel, with Wynter averaging 17.5 points and a league-high 5.5 assists per contest, while Butler adds 13.5 points and 9.1 boards. In the last contest at JMU, Wynter racked up 29 points and six rebounds, while the Dukes held Butler to six points and six boards.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Dukes picked up a 73-64 win over the Dragons earlier this season, triumphing on January 31 to cut Drexel's lead in the all-time series between the schools to 23-16 while staking JMU a 10-8 lead in games played in Harrisonburg.
- Â In that contest, the Dukes had four players score in double figures, with Matt Lewis and Vado Morse each scoring 15 points, while Julien Wooden and Terell Strickland added 11 points each, with Strickland hitting a three-pointer with 1:16 to play to put the contest out of reach and Wooden adding a game- and season-high seven boards.
