QUICK HITS
- James Madison will play the second of four straight home games on Saturday afternoon, welcoming College of Charleston to Harrisonburg for a 4pm matchup.
- The Dukes were stunned on Thursday, dropping a 71-70 matchup against UNCW on buzzer-beating three-pointer. JMU held a 13-point lead in the second half and were up six late, but got outscored 8-1 in the final 1:29 of the contest. The Dukes hold a 7-2 record at the Atlantic Union Bank Center this season.
- The Dukes have been no stranger to close games in 2021-22, as they have played nine games decided by five or fewer points, going 7-2 in such instances.
- Redshirt junior Vado Morse leads JMU on offense with 13.6 points per game - ninth-most in the league - and had a season-high 25 points against UNCW. Morse has 20 or more points in four of his last five games and now has four 25+-point games in his career.
- James Madison ranks 29th in the nation and first in the league with a 47.9% field goal percentage so far this season. Among players with at least 50 field goal attempts, three Dukes - graduate transfer Alonzo Sule (.652), redshirt freshman Justin Amadi (.649), and redshirt freshman Terell Strickland (.563) - are all shooting at least 55% from the field.
- Both Sule's and Amadi's percentages are top five in JMU history, and would also rank inside the top five in the country. JMU shot 73.7% in the second half on Thursday, its best field goal percentage in a half since putting up a .756 percentage in the second half of the season opener against Carlow.
- Graduate transfer Takal Molson is coming off back-to-back double-doubles as he scored 13 points and grabbed 10 boards against UNCW. Molson has six career double-doubles, three of them with JMU. He and Morse are tied for the team lead in assists with 38.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
- College of Charleston started the season with three-straight wins, winning the Rising Coaches Classic on Nov. 13.
- Graduate student John Meeks leads the Cougars with 15.8 points per game (third in the conference), scoring in double-figures in all but two games this season. Meeks played in just six games last season, but averaged a remarkable 25.3 points with Bucknell.
- Freshman Reyne Smith is averaging 12.0 points per game and ranks third in the conference with 2.8 threes made per contest.
- CofC has had 104 shots blocked thus far, an average of 6.5 per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Dukes and Cougars will take to the floor for the 17th time, with CofC taking 11 of the first 16 meetings, including eight of the last nine.
- Like UNCW on Thursday, this will mark the first time Charleston has played JMU at the Atlantic Union Bank Center, as the two sides last met at the Convocation Center on Jan. 30, 2020. JMU and CofC did not meet last year due to COVID schedule alterations.
DUKE DOG READING DAY
