CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Redshirt sophomore
Kendall Turner of the James Madison women's golf team picked up her fifth top-15 finish of the season on Tuesday afternoon, leading the way as the Dukes finished 11th at the Chattanooga Classic, hosted at the par-72, 6,234-yard Council Fire Golf Club.
The Dukes rebounded from a slow start to climb into 11th on a strong 20-team leaderboard, carding rounds of 311-297-300 to hold off 12th-place Wisconsin by a shot and Iowa and host Chattanooga by two shots each.
Turner racked up 12 birdies on the week, tied for third-most in the 105-player field, and fired a final-round 69 (-3) to vault herself into 12th place. She improved each day, carding 76-73-69 to finish at 218 (+2), just one shot outside the top 10.
Redshirt junior
Kate Owens also rebounded across the final two days, carding rounds of 70 (-2) and 74 (+2) in the second and third rounds to climb into a tie for 36th at 224 (+8), while senior
Carly Lyvers tied for 69th at 234 (74-81-79).
Sophomore
Amelia Williams (81-77-78) and freshman
Kayleigh Reinke (83-77-79) rounded out the JMU scoring in ties for 76th and 89th, respectively.
UP NEXT
The Dukes will be back on the course next week, traveling to Ironwood Golf Club in Greenville, N.C. to take part in the Ironwood Invitational on April 4-5.
