Lacrosse Falls To Loyola in Second Round of NCAA Tournament

BALTIMORE – James Madison lacrosse saw its season end in the NCAA Championship second round with an 18-8 defeat at sixth-seeded Loyola on Sunday.
JMU finished its season at 14-5 and had an 11-game win streak snapped after the defeat. Loyola won its 20th game to improve to 20-1.
Sophomore Katelyn Morgan led JMU with a pair of goals and finished with four points on the day. Redshirt senior Katie Checkosky also had two assists, finishing with 45 for the season.
Despite the loss, JMU marked its fourth time in six seasons playing in the second round.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – Loyola 6, James Madison 3
Redshirt junior Kacey Knobloch opened the scoring, but Loyola scored six straight times in a span of 7:23 to grab a 6-1 lead. Peterson and Morgan scored back-to-back times to draw JMU within three at the end of the quarter. Two of JMU's goals were from the free-position.
Second Quarter – Loyola 11, James Madison 7
After Loyola scored the first two goals, JMU pulled to within three again at 8-5. The Greyhounds twice again got the lead to five, but Morgan's final-minute goal cut the lead to four. JMU out-shot Loyola 9-7 in the period.
Third Quarter – Loyola 15, James Madison 8
Loyola scored the first three goals of the quarter in a span of 3:08 to build its biggest lead of the game to the point. The Greyhounds outdrew the Dukes 5-1 to increase the lead.
Fourth Quarter – Loyola 18, James Madison 8
The Greyhounds scored all three goals of the period and outshot JMU 7-1.

- The Greyhounds doubled up JMU on draw controls, 20-10.
RECORD WATCH
- Checkosky passed Katie Kerrigan's 2017 assists total and finished third all-time for a single season.
- Redshirt junior Mairead Durkin had two more caused turnovers, finishing with a record-setting 52 for the season.
