COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland forced 21 turnovers which it turned into 22 points for a 78-55 win over James Madison on Wednesday afternoon inside the XFINITY Center.
JMU (8-4) shot a season-low .270 (20-74) from the field, while UMD's (9-3) Shyanne Sellers led all players with 29 points on 9-of-19 (.474) to go along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Redshirt sophomore
Peyton McDaniel posted a season-high 25 points, knocking down five three-points. She also pulled down eight boards, registered a season-best three steals, and had zero turnovers. Redshirt juniors

Carole Miller all chipped in with six points.
Steph Ouderkirk dished out a team-best four assists in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- The Dukes opened with a 9-0 lead at the 5:29 mark.
- Maryland responded with a quick 11-0 run before the two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the frame.
- Sellers connected on a three-pointer with three seconds left to give the Terps an 18-17 edge going into the second.
Second Quarter
- UMD increased its lead to four (27-23) at the media timeout.
- The Dukers were able to hit a trio of threes, however, Sellers scored 10 points in the quarter to help give Maryland a 35-28 advantage at the half.
- JMU turned the ball over eight times for 13 total in the opening twenty minutes.
Third Quarter
- The Terps increased their lead to 13 (42-29) two and a half minutes into the third.
- McDaniel hit three consecutive treys to make it a 45-38 game with 4:38 to go.
- Maryland went into the final frame ahead 57-42.
Fourth Quarter
- McDaniel scored seven of the Dukes' 13 points in the fourth as Maryland came away with the 78-55 victory.
GAME NOTES
- James Madison trails in the all-time series versus Maryland, 13-1, falling in twelve consecutive contests against UMD.
- The Terps held an advantage in points in the paint (32-18) and fast break points (13-0).
- JMU won the rebounding battle, 50-44. The effort on the glass marked the Dukes' fifth game with 50 or more boards in 2023-24.
- James Madison's 21 turnovers were the most for the team since coughing up the ball 21 times at Ohio State in the NCAA First Round on March 18.
- McDaniel's five three-pointers are her most since going 7-for-7 in the Sun Belt Conference title game versus Texas State on March 6, 2023.
