RALEIGH, N.C. – James Madison trailed 20-7 after the first quarter and shot 27.3 percent (18-for-66) overall from the field as it fell to No. 21 NC State, 61-47, inside the Reynolds Coliseum on Thursday night.
The Dukes (8-4) also struggled from three, connecting on 3-of-24 (.125). The Wolfpack (9-3, 1-0 ACC) went 25-of-66 (.379) from the field and won the rebounding battle, 50-43.
Kseniia Kozlova paced the Dukes with 15 points and a season-high 13 rebounds for her 10th career double-double and third of the season.
Ro Scott added eight points off the bench, while
Jamia Hazell chipped in with seven.
Peyton McDaniel finished with five points and eight rebounds.
Bree Robinson provided energy off the bench with four points, four rebounds and three steals.
Aziah James led all scorers with 21 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Madison Hayes (11) and Zoe Brooks (10) also finished in double figures. Brooks also posted a game-best six assists in the win.
How It Happened
First Quarter – NC State 20, JMU 7
- The Pack used a 13-2 run, while JMU made one of its last eight from the field to give NC State a 15-5 advantage at the first media timeout.
Second Quarter – NC State 26, JMU 17
- The Dukes held NC State to six points and 0-for-12 from three to cut the deficit to nine at the break.
- McDaniel and Kozlova each added four points in the frame.
Third Quarter – NC State 42, JMU 33
- An and-one from Barnes made it a six-point game (31-25) at the 7:31 mark. However, the Wolfpack responded by hitting five of its next seven shots to take a 40-27 lead and force a JMU timeout.
Fourth Quarter – NC State 61, JMU 47
- JMU trailed by eight (46-38) with 7:29 left to play after Kozlova converted on an and-one play followed by a layup from McDaniel.
- The Pack answered with a 13-4 scoring spurt over the next six minutes to pull away.
Game Notes
- JMU held an advantage in points in the paint (24-20) and second-chance points (4-3).
- Seven points are the fewest scored by the Dukes in any quarter in the 2024-25 campaign.
- Robinson has recorded three or more steals in five games this season.
