James Madison men's basketball is set to host Utah Valley of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Atlantic Union Bank Center at 4 p.m.
The Dukes began the month of December winning 71-61 over ETSU on Tuesday to remain unbeaten following a loss on the season.
The Wolverines are led by Head Coach Todd Phillips - who is in his second year at the helm - and enter this contest with a 4-4 record.
The game will stream on ESPN+ with Curt Dudley and Kirby Dean. Dave Riggert will call the game on WSVA 92.1 FM | 550 AM and the Varsity Network App, with coverage beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Saturday's matchup will mark the first meeting between the two schools. The last time JMU took on a WAC opponent was against Seattle on December 17th, 1983 which the Dukes won 59-58 in Harrisonburg.
JMU VS. THE WAC
James Madison will play its fifth game against current WAC members on Saturday against Utah Valley.
The Dukes are 2-2 all-time against current WAC members. JMU defeated Seattle 59-58 on Dec. 17, 1983 in Harrisonburg and San Jose State 77-68 on Dec. 22, 2012 in Las Vegas. The Dukes dropped a pair of games to BYU in 1990 and 1991 - one in Harrisonburg and one in Provo.
LAST TIME OUT
JMU led wire-to-wire and held ETSU to a season-low 35.9 field goal percentage to take a 71-61 victory over the Buccaneers on Tuesday night inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
JMU held ETSU to 27 first-half points, the third straight opponent the Dukes have held to under 30 points. In its last five games, JMU has surrendered only 69.2 points per game.
Elijah Hutchins-Everett played in his 100th career game, scoring in double figures for the 47th time.
JMU lost the rebounding battle (37-35) for the first time this season.
THE UTAH VALLEY SCOUT
UVU enters Saturday's game with a 4-4 record after falling to Stanford 77-63 on Tuesday night. After the game with JMU, they will return home to play North Dakota before hitting the road again at Jax State on Dec. 14.
Utah Valley is currently on a three-game skid after opening the season 4-1, also dropping games to North Dakota State (Nov. 28) and Samford (Nov. 27) at the Samford Thanksgiving Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
In 2023-24, UVU finished 16-16 and 11-9 in WAC play, but was upset in the opening round of WAC tournament at the hands of No. 8 seed California Baptist, 74-63, as Head Coach Todd Phillips earned the most wins of a first-year head coach in program history (16). Osiris Grady was named to the All-WAC newcomer/freshman team.
Utah Valley was picked to finish fifth in the 2024-25 WAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
This season, Utah Valley is scoring 76 points per game while giving up 73.4 points per game. The Wolverines are second in the WAC in field goal percentage (.476) and first in blocked shots (5.25/game).
Dominick Nelson leads Utah Valley in scoring (14.4), Carter Welling leads Utah Valley in rebounds per game while shooting 47.5% from three, and Ethan Potter is shooting 60.8% from the floor.
UVU has never made the NCAA Tournament and made two appearances in the NIT.
BRYCE LINDSANITY
After only playing in eight games last year at Texas A&M, redshirt freshman guard Bryce Lindsay is second on JMU in scoring (13.8 ppg) while leading the Dukes in three-pointers made (27) and three-point percentage (48.2).
Through the seasons opening weeks, Lindsay is one of six players nationally averaging at least 13 points per game off the bench while shooting 45 percent or greater from behind the arc. His three-point percentage of 48.2 is second in the Sun Belt Conference and 26th nationally as of Thursday, Dec. 5.
Over his last five games, Bryce Lindsay is averaging 15.8 points per game and shooting 14-34 (.411) from three.
At the Boardwalk Battle in Daytona Beach, Lindsay finished with 56 points in three games (18.7 / game) while shooting 63 percent (19-30) from the floor and 61.9 percent from deep (13-21).
He poured in a career-high 28 points in the tournament opener against UIC - 23 of which came in the first half. He finished the first half a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor with three 3-pointers before finishing with 28. He became the first freshman and 25th NCAA Division I player since 2004-05 to record 25 points with 10 made field goals at 90 percent or better, five 3-pointers, and five rebounds in a single game to help James Madison score a season-high 99 points.
Lindsay also became the first JMU player since Vado Morse in January 2022 to hit five 3-pointers in consecutive games, as the guard finished 5-of-6 against UIC and 5-of-9 against UC San Diego. Lindsay has hit five three-pointers in three of his last four games played.

All parking pass holders — both Spot-Specific and Reserved — will enter through the North Entrance of the Ballard Parking Deck. For those entering through the North Entrance, all parking is reserved and first-come-first-serve. There will be no spot-specific parking available for doubleheaders.
General Parking
Accessible via the South Entrance of the Ballard Parking Deck as well as the adjacent surface lots (C12, D3, and R4), general parking is available beginning two hours before game time. General parking is free of charge, available on a first-come, first-served basis, and cannot be reserved in advance.
