HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's basketball is set to host Villanova for a Sunday matinee on Nov. 16. The opening tip inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center is slated for 2 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
LAST TIME VS. VILLANOVA
Jamia Hazell registered 10 points in the fourth quarter as JMU outscored Villanova 20-9 in the final frame for a 71-67 triumph on Dec. 15, 2024, inside Finneran Pavilion.
The Dukes forced the Wildcats to commit eight turnovers in the fourth, including three in the final 1:51.
JMU trailed by as much as 10 (58-48) with 0:22 remaining in the third before Annalicia Goodman converted on an and-one to make it 58-51 heading into the fourth.
The Dukes produced a 7-0 run halfway through the fourth, highlighted by a step-back jump shot from Zakiya Stephenson to give James Madison a 65-63 edge with 2:36 to go.
On JMU's final possession, Hazell bled the clock and then drove to the basket for the go-ahead score with 3.6 seconds remaining. With the Dukes up 69-67, the Wildcats stepped out of bounds on the baseline, then fouled Hazell who sank two shots at the line to cement the 71-67 win.
THE DUKES VS. THE BIG EAST
James Madison is 17-12 (.586) versus current BIG EAST opponents.
The Dukes own perfect marks against Providence (3-0), Butler (1-0), Seton Hall (1-0) and Xavier (1-0).
The last time JMU faced a BIG EAST foe, Kseniia Kozlova registered her ninth double-double of the season, racking up 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead James Madison to an 80-76 overtime victory over Marquette in the Second Round of the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament at the Atlantic Union Bank Center on March 23, 2025.
NCAA RANKING SUMMARY
Through Nov. 14 games, JMU owns four top-50 marks in the nation: steals per game (T-30th - 14.0), blocks per game (T-34th - 5.8), field goal percentage defense (44th - .316) and turnover margin (44th - +9.25).
The Dukes went 16-2 inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center in 2024-25, marking consecutive seasons with at least a dozen home victories. Additionally, the 16 home wins were the most by the program since the 2018-19 season when James Madison produced an 18-1 record at the Convocation Center.
JMU is 58-21 (.734) since the Atlantic Union Bank Center opened at the start of the 2020-21 season.
Moreover, Head Coach Sean O'Regan is 118-31 (.792) when playing in Harrisonburg.
NON-CONFERENCE
James Madison's non-conference slate features four teams that competed in the 2025 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship: George Mason, Liberty, Texas and Notre Dame.
Meanwhile, four foes finished in the top 50 from the final NET rankings of the 2024-25 season: Texas (3), Notre Dame (4), George Mason (45) and Virginia Tech (47).
Four opponents were voted a top-two team in their respective preseason polls: Kent State (1st - Mid-American Conference), George Mason (2nd - A10), Liberty (2nd - CUSA) and Texas (2nd - SEC).
Lastly, Texas (#4) and Notre Dame (#15) were ranked in the AP Top 25 Preseason Poll on Oct. 14.
