NEW ORLEANS – Following its third-straight 20-win season and a share of the Sun Belt Conference regular-season title, James Madison earned the No. 2 seed and a quad-bye into the semifinals of the 2025 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship.
The Sun Belt Championship will be held March 4-10 at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla.
JMU completed the 2024-25 regular season with an overall record of 20-11 and 13-5 in league games, winning 10 of its last 11 conference games after starting 3-4.
South Alabama (21-10, 13-5 SBC) earned the No. 1 seed, while Troy earned the No. 3 seed and Arkansas State the No. 4 seed. The four teams finished tied at 13-5, but tiebreakers determined the final seed order.
The Dukes are seeking their second consecutive conference tournament crown and automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship for the second time in program history and first since earning three straight bids from 1981-83.
JMU will open postseason play on Sunday, March 9 at 8:30 p.m. ET in the semifinals, where it will play the winner of Game 10 between No. 3 seed Troy and an opponent to be determined. The Dukes defeated Troy, 64-61, in the teams' only matchup of the season on Feb. 5 in Harrisonburg, Va.
Action will commence on Tuesday, March 4 with the second, third, and fourth rounds to follow on consecutive days. The quarterfinals will take place on Saturday, March 8, and the semifinals on Sunday, March 9. The championship game will take place at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, March 10 and broadcast nationally on ESPN2, while the rest of the action will be on ESPN+.
