JMU WELCOMES MARQUETTE FOR WBIT SECOND-ROUND MATCHUP
- James Madison is set for the Second Round of the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) as it welcomes Marquette to the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Sunday, March 23. Tip time is slated for 4 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
- The Dukes have made a postseason tournament 24 times, with 13 appearances at the NCAA Women's Basketball Championships, nine outings at the Women's National Invitation Tournament and now two seasons competing in the WBIT.
- Last time out, four players scored in doubles figures, and JMU dominated the fourth quarter en route to a 77-50 victory against Davidson on Thursday night in the opening round of the WBIT.
- With the win, the Dukes tied their single-season program record for wins with 29. If JMU is victorious on Sunday, it will mark the 11th time a Sun Belt team has reached 30 wins.
- Kseniia Kozlova recorded her eighth double-double of the season with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Ro Scott scored 16 points off the bench, hitting two of JMU's five second-half 3-pointers. Peyton McDaniel netted 14 points, while Bree Robinson tied her career high with 12 points.
- JMU completed the 2024-25 regular season with an unblemished 18-0 conference record and posted a 20-game winning streak from Dec. 29-March 9, the longest such streak under the direction of Head Coach Sean O'Regan and the most consecutive victories by the program since posting a 20-game winning streak from Jan. 8-March 12, 2016.Â
- The Dukes produced their fourth undefeated season against league foes, previously going 12-0 in 1986-87, 1987-88 and 1988-89 as members of the Colonial Athletic Association. JMU is one of only eight teams in Sun Belt history to go undefeated in conference play since the league expanded to double-digit conference games in 1991-92: Louisiana Tech (1993-94, 1995-96, 1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01) and Middle Tennessee (2006-07, 2011-12).
- James Madison's 15 home wins are the most by the program inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center and marks the most home wins for the Dukes since going 18-1 during the 2018-19 season – the last season in which they achieved 29 wins.
- The Dukes own four top-10 marks nationally: defensive rebounds per game (4th - 30.6), three-point percentage (5th - 26.1), rebounds per game (7th - 43.03) and field goal percentage defense (8th - 35.8).
- Individually, McDaniel is second in the Sun Belt and tied for 29th in the nation in double-doubles (14), recording five in the last seven games.
- For the fifth week in a row, James Madison received votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, announced Monday afternoon. The Dukes also tallied seven points in the USA TODAYÂ Sports Top 25 Women's Basketball Poll.
- JMU earned seven points, placing them 32nd overall – ahead of Harvard (5), Fairfield (5) and Cal (3) – who all earned spots in the 2025 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.
DUKES AT HOME
- Â JMU is 54-19 (.740) since the Atlantic Union Bank Center opened up at the start of the 2020-21 season.
- The Dukes have won 15 of their last 16 home contests, with the lone loss coming at the hands of then-No. 4 Texas (93-62, Dec. 8). Additionally, JMU has won at least a dozen games at home for consecutive seasons for the first time since the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons when the Dukes went 18-1 and 14-1, respectively.
- Since 2000, the program has had three undefeated seasons at home: 2015-16 (14-0), 2006-07 (13-0) and 2005-06 (13-0). In that same time frame, the Dukes have had four seasons with 15 or more wins at home, 18 with a dozen or more, and 21 with 10 or more.
- Head Coach Sean O'Regan is 114-29 (.797) when playing in Harrisonburg.Â
COACH O EXTENSION
- Fresh off his first Coach of the Year honor and the most regular-season victories in James Madison history, women's basketball Head Coach Sean O'Regan received a contract extension through the 2030-31 season, as announced Friday by JMU Director of Athletics Matt Roan.
- O'Regan holds a 209-80 record in his ninth season at the helm of the Dukes and ranks 18th among active women's basketball head coaches with a .723 winning percentage counting exclusively Division I seasons.
JMU VS. THE BIG EAST
- James Madison owns a 16-12 (.571) record versus current BIG EAST opponents.
- The Dukes own perfect marks against Providence (3-0), Butler (1-0), Seton Hall (1-0) and Xavier (1-0).
- The last time JMU faced a BIG EAST foe, Jamia Hazell registered 10 points in the fourth quarter as James Madison women's basketball outscored Villanova 20-9 in the final frame for a 71-67 triumph on Dec. 15, 2024, inside Finneran Pavilion.
- On the Dukes' possession, Hazell bled the clock and drove to the basket for the go-ahead score with 3.6 seconds remaining. With the Dukes up 69-67, the Wildcats stepped out of bounds on the baseline, then fouled Hazell who sank two shots at the line to cement the 71-67 win. Peyton McDaniel paced the Dukes with 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. Hazell finished with 12 points on an efficient 4-of-8 (.500) clip from the field.

- The winner of JMU versus Marquette will face the victor of No. 3 Belmont (23-12, 15-5 MVC) and Northern Arizona (27-7, 16-2 Big Sky) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 27.
