HARRISONBURG, Va. –
Kseniia Kozlova registered her ninth double-double of the season, racking up 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead James Madison to an 80-76 overtime victory over Marquette in the Second Round of the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament on Sunday evening at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
With the win, JMU (30-5) set a program record for single-season wins and will host Belmont on Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m. in the Quarterfinals of the WBIT. Belmont overcame a 21-point deficit to down Northern Arizona, 81-80, on Sunday.

Ro Scott scored on a tough finish to give the Dukes a 76-73 advantage with 26.7 seconds left, and free throws from
Jamia Hazell and
Zakiya Stephenson secured the victory for the Dukes. JMU shot 44.6 percent (29-of-65) from the floor overall and scored 21 points off 17 Marquette turnovers.
Four Dukes scored in double figures, fueled by Kozlova's double-double. Scott produced 14 points off the bench – including seven in the fourth quarter and overtime – to help seal the victory, while
Jamia Hazell (15) and
Peyton McDaniel (10) each finished in double figures. Stephenson and
Ashanti Barnes both finished with eight points, while Robinson tied for the team lead with four helpers.
For Marquette, Skylar Forbes (25) and Halle Vice (22) combined for 47 points, including going 14-for-14 from the charity stripe. Vice recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds to go along with her scoring production, while Forbes went 8-for-15 (.533) from the field and posted a game-high three blocks. Jaidynn Mason dished out a game-best five assists in the loss.
How It Happened
First Quarter – JMU 18, MU 12
- The Dukes opened with an 11-0 run and held Marquette to 4-of-14 (.286) as it missed its first seven shots from the field.
- The Golden Eagles converted seven JMU turnovers into 12 points.
Second Quarter – MU 32, JMU 30
- Marquette used a 7-0 spurt halfway through the second to take a 26-24 lead at the 6:01 mark.
- JMU went 0-for-5 from three and committed four giveaways in the frame.
Third Quarter – MU 52, JMU 51
- Trailing 47-43, JMU held Marquette scoreless for 2:55 and forced three turnovers during a 6-0 run to go ahead 49-47 with 1:34 to go.
- Forbes registered 10 points in the period, while Hazell and Kozlova both added six.
Fourth Quarter – JMU 66, MU 66
- The Dukes regained the lead with a triple from Robinson on their opening possession.
- Free throws from Kozlova put JMU ahead 66-60 with 2:31 to play, however, the Golden Eagles fought back with Forbes sinking two shots from the charity stripe at 0:56 to send the game to overtime.
Overtime – JMU 80, MU 76
- JMU built a quick four-point lead with free throws from Kozlova and a driving layup from Scott to make it 70-66 with 3:34 remaining.
- Vice cut the deficit to one (74-73) with a pair of shots from the line, but never got closer as the Dukes went 4-for-4 down the stretch with a clutch layup from Scott.
Game Notes
- The Dukes are now 16-1 at home this season and improved to 1-2 in overtime games.
- JMU is 4-4 this season when trailing at the half. The Dukes were down 32-30 at the break.
- Kozlova scored 20 points for the 10th time in her career and third time this season.
- The 30 wins marked the 11th time a Sun Belt team has reached that plateau and the first since Middle Tennessee in the 2006-07 season.
- The Dukes are one of 13 teams in the country with 30-plus wins this season.
- Hazell finished with 15 points, moving her to 15th in JMU career scoring with 1,367.
- The Dukes held the advantage in bench points (19-2) and fast break points (12-6).
