Dukes Fall at Home to #8 Maryland

HARRISONBURG, Va. – #13 James Madison lacrosse couldn't overcome a scoreless first period and fell to #8 Maryland, 11-5, on Saturday afternoon at Sentara Park.
Maddie Epke and Maggie Clark paced JMU (4-2) with one goal and one assist apiece. Chloe Bleckley picked up three ground balls to go along with a career-high four caused turnovers. Maddie Weybrecht picked up a career-high five ground balls while causing three turnovers.
Adanya Moyer made her second start in the cage and made eight saves on 30 shots faced.
Kori Edmonson led Maryland (4-1) with three goals and one assist, while also causing two turnovers. JJ Suriano started in the cage for the Terps and made 13 saves on 25 shots faced.

#13 JMU will return to action next Saturday, Mar. 15 when it travels to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt and begin AAC play. Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m. ET and will stream on ESPN+.

How it Happened
First Quarter – Maryland 5, James Madison 0
- Maryland scored on its opening possession to get out to a quick lead and pressured early, forcing two failed clears by the Dukes to lead 3-0 midway through the first. The Terps scored twice more as JMU struggled in its offensive zone and trailed 5-0 at the end of the opening frame.
- Clark got the Dukes on the board at the 13:19 mark of the second period.
- Maryland took advantage of a man-up opportunity, and another free position shot to respond with two goals to lead 7-1 following Clark's score.
- The Dukes were able to outscore the Terps the rest of the period with goals from Savannah Derey, Epke and Bleckley, and trailed 9-4 at halftime.
- The Dukes buckled down defensive out of the break, as Moyer made five saves on six shots in the period. Maryland managed just one score at the 7:22 mark.
- JMU won the draw battle in the third 2-0, but the Dukes couldn't find a score as Suriano made five saves on all five shots attempted in the frame.
- The Dukes continued to ask questions in their offensive zone as the final frame began, but struggled to find the back of the net.
- Maryland netted one more goal at the 10:26 mark of the period, but JMU was unable to spark a rally and managed just one more score from Lauren Savage with 2:41 to play.
- The loss snapped a regular season 19-game home win streak, going back to 2022.
- Epke is now 19 draw wins away from tying Isabella Peterson as the all-time leader in draw controls for the Purple and Gold. The junior also scored for the 25th consecutive game.
- Chloe Bleckley has scored at least one point in every game, and has scored at least one goal in all but the season opener for the Dukes in 2025.
