HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison lacrosse players Maddie Epke, Adanya Moyer, and Payton Root earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday. This follows a week of road trips for the Dukes, who notched wins over Georgetown in the Nation's Capital on Wednesday, 16-11, and Temple in Philadelphia on Saturday, 18-4.
Epke collected her fifth Attacker of the Week honor, while Moyer earned her second Goalkeeper of the Week Honor and Root took home her first honor as Freshman of the Week.
Epke continued her dominance on both the draw and attack this week, tallying 14 goals and 24 draw controls, including a new career-best and JMU single-game-tying record eight goals against Temple, which are also the most goals in a game of any AAC player this season. The 15 draw wins in Philadelphia marked the eighth time this season the junior has outdrawn the opponent by herself. Epke currently sits second in the conference in goals (3.17), points (4.33), and shots per game (seven). Nationally, the native of Guilford, Connecticut leads the country in draw controls per game (12.69) and has JMU second in draw control percentage (.656).
Moyer continued her best season in the cage, setting a new career-high in saves (18) for a .621 save percentage against Georgetown, while holding to the Hoyas to 1-of-6 on free-position shots. Against Temple, she recorded a .429 save percentage, making three saves on nine shots faced in just under forty minutes of action. In league games, Moyer currently sits first in GAA (7.91) and third in save percentage (.439). JMU as a team is first GAA (6.25) and save percentage (.519) in conference games.
Root has emerged in the second half of this season as a key piece in the crease for the Dukes. Against Georgetown, the freshman dished out a career-best seven assists, just one shy of the JMU single-game program record of eight while scoring a no-look goal. The seven helpers are also the most of any AAC player this season and make her the first Duke to record five or more assists in a game since Katelyn Morgan recorded six against Vanderbilt in 2024. At Temple, Root tallied her fourth game of the season with at least four points, producing two goals and two assists. She also posted a 1.000 shot percentage in both outings. Currently, Root sits third in the conference in assists per game (1.50).
#12 JMU will play its final two home games of the regular season this week, welcoming in-state foe Liberty on Wednesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. and new AAC member South Florida on Saturday, April 19 at noon for Senior Day. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.
