HARRISONBURG, Va -- James Madison lacrosse attacker Maddie Epke earned USA Lacrosse Player of the Week and IWLCA Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the outlets announced Tuesday. Epke was previously named IWLCA Player of the Week on March 4.
The honor comes on the heels of Epke earning her fifth American Athletic Conference Attacker of the Week award. The junior powered JMU to a 2-0 week, with wins over Georgetown in the Nation's Capital on Wednesday, 16-11, and Temple in Philadelphia on Saturday, 18-4.
Epke continued her dominance on both the draw and attack this week, tallying 14 goals and 24 draw controls in two outings. Eight goals, a career-high and program-tying record against Temple, are also the most goals in a game of any AAC player this season. The native of Guilford, Conn. has recorded four or more goals seven times and has won 12 or more draws in eight games this season.
The 15 draw wins in Philadelphia marked the eighth time this season the junior has outdrawn the opponent by herself. Epke currently sits second in the conference in goals (3.17), points (4.33), and shots per game (seven). Nationally, she leads the country in draw controls per game (12.69) and has JMU second in draw control percentage (.656) and fourth in draw controls per game (17.62).
#12 JMU will play its final two home games of the regular season this week, welcoming in-state foe Liberty on Wednesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. and new AAC member South Florida on Saturday, April 19 at noon for Senior Day. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.
