NEW ORLEANS – After a remarkable week at the plate, James Madison softball freshman Cali Legzdin garnered Sun Belt Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
This is the second time during the 2025 campaign that a Duke has been named to the award, as Payton List was given the nod on March 11 following her efforts in the Lakeside Book Company Tournament.
Legzdin had an outstanding four-game stretch for James Madison, including helping the Dukes to their fourth-straight Sun Belt Conference series victory against Coastal Carolina on April 25-27.
The freshman infielder had a staggering .727 batting average, going 8-for-11, complete with two doubles, a home run, three runs driven in, and five runs scored. She also sported a slugging percentage of 1.182 and a .750 on-base percentage, encapsulating 13 total bases against Virginia and Coastal Carolina.Â
Her three runs scored on Saturday was a single-game career high, and her three hits tied her career-high in a game.
The Beaver Falls, Pa., product also stole two bases in game one of the series, which puts her at a team-leading 20 steals on the year and second in the Sun Belt in the category.
Defensively, Legzdin made all 22 putouts and added an assist at first base.
She ranks in the top five in nine different categories for James Madison and leads the team in doubles with nine.Â
The single-season freshman record for stolen bases was also broken by the infielder on April 17, and she tied the single-game school record with four steals against George Mason on April 15.
JMU will put a cap on the 2025 regular season when it hosts Georgia Southern for a three-game set starting on Thursday, May 1 at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
