SPARKS, Md. – James Madison lacrosse attacker Maddie Epke earned Division I Women's First Team All-American honors from USA Lacrosse, the outlet announced on Thursday.
Â
Epke is one of 42 athletes from across the nation selected to the three teams. She has taken honors from the outlet for the second consecutive year, as she made the Honorable Mention list in 2024. The laurel also marks five straight years of at least one Duke being named a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American.
Â
Epke earned her recognition as she consistently proved herself one of the most dominant players on the field at any time. The attacker has been the primary scorer for JMU all season long while sitting best amongst the nation in several statistical categories, ranking first in draw controls per game (12.61), 20th in goals per game (3.5) and 25th in points per game (4.67).
Â
A Tewaaraton Nominee, she was also the unanimous selection for the American Athletic Conference's top attack player after leading JMU in scoring with 63 goals and 21 assists for 84 points. Scoring aside, Epke is arguably the nation's top draw specialist, leading the country with a JMU single-season record 227 draw controls. She outdrew opponents single handedly in 11 games this season and became the first player in JMU history to record over 20 draw controls in one game and set a new career draws record, which currently sits at 477.
Â
JMU (14-4, 6-0) will begin NCAA Championship play facing Duke in the first round on Friday, May 9 at 6 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.
