Cuviello Highlights JMU Four on Final 2025 Freshman Impact Rankings

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison defender Reese Cuviello was ranked #17 in the final 2025 Inside Lacrosse Freshman Impact Rankings, as she led four Dukes who were recognized on the list.

Joining Cuviello on the Freshman Impact Rankings were midfielder Chloe Bleckley, attacker Olivia Matthews and attacker Payton Root, who were each recognized as Honorable Mention selections.

Cuviello was a First Team All-American Athletic Conference honoree who started all 19 games for JMU's defense. She recorded 22 caused turnovers and 22 ground balls while winning 42 draw controls. Cuviello, an All-AAC Tournament Team pick and two-time AAC Defensive Player of the Week, additionally scored two goals.

Bleckley, who played in all 19 games, scored 16 goals with three assists for 19 points. She did so on just 32 shots for a .500 shooting percentage and a quarter of her goals came via free-position opportunities. Bleckley also accrued 15 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.

Matthews was a Second Team All-AAC attacker and member of the All-Tournament Team who started all 19 games for the Dukes. The two-time AAC Freshman of the Week and one-time Attack Player of the Week was JMU's third-leading scorer, with 31 goals and 13 assists for 44 points. Matthews scored six free-position goals and added 33 draws, nine ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Root earned Second Team All-AAC accolades on attack after playing in 15 games during her rookie campaign. Once honored as AAC Freshman of the Week, she scored 11 goals with a team-leading 29 assists for 40 points in 2025. Root also contributed six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

JMU is fresh off a 14-5 season in which the program won both the AAC regular-season and tournament titles to advance to the NCAA Championship for the 10th consecutive season.
