HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison junior Kennedy Louisell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) continued her torrid start to the 2025 campaign, tallying a career-high 27 kills to lead the volleyball team to a four-set win over Princeton in front of 745 fans on Saturday night at the Convocation Center.

Louisell finished with a .469 attacking percentage, tallying only four errors on 49 swings to go with her 27 kills. Despite hitting .299, Princeton (2-1) could not slow down JMU (2-3), as the Dukes hit .324 and picked up 10 service aces and nine blocks.

Grace Wenrich (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County) earned the start at setter for JMU, as the senior tallied a career-high 29 assists. Rebecca Waktins added 23 assists and nine digs, while libero Julia McNeley (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) led the team with 19 digs. Ana Toumazatos reached 10 kills for the second time in her career, and Addie Norman added nine kills.

For Princeton, Taylor Clarke (15), Valerie Nutakor (13), and Erin McNair (12) tallied double-digit kills, with Clarke hitting .448. Sydney Draper picked up 46 assists, and Sydney Bold had 15 digs.

How It Happened
First Set: James Madison 26-24

A kill from Toumazatos gave JMU a 15-13 lead at the media timeout.
After an ace from Louisell gave the Dukes a 19-16 lead and forced a Princeton timeout, Princeton battled back to tie the set at 24-24 on a kill from McNair.
Kills from Toumazatos and Louisell gave JMU the win in the first.

Second Set: James Madison 25-17

JMU jumped on Princeton in the second, going ahead 6-1 on a kill from Watkins.
The Tigers cut it to three (11-8), but the Dukes rattled off seven straight to take a commanding 18-8 lead.
Princeton got no closer than six the rest of the way as JMU took a 2-0 lead in the match.

Third Set: Princeton 25-21

A kill from Clarke gave the visitors a 15-14 lead at the media timeout.
Princeton extended its lead to four (19-15) as JMU took a timeout.
The Dukes could not get closer than three as the Tigers took the third.

Fourth Set: James Madison 25-17

JMU scored the first six points of the set, capping the run with a block from Ayen Nhial and Louisell.
The Dukes pushed the lead to 13-3 and cruised the rest of the way.

Match Notes

The attendance of 745 is the third-largest crowd since James Madison began playing volleyball in the Convocation Center in 2023.
JMU won its eighth straight match against Princeton, dating back to Oct. 28, 1983.
Through five matches, Louisell has 104 kills in 19 sets (5.47 per set) and is hitting .391.
Sydney Lewis finished with nine digs and now has 983 in her career.
